The Hungry Italian leans towards local establishments but that doesn’t mean he shuns the corporate franchises and strongly encourages you not to as well. While it feels good to support the local dining establishment (and it should) don’t mischaracterize the national chains as evil. Remember, that is an entirely local staff that operates the place and in some cases the franchise is managed by local individuals.
So don’t feel guilty about eating at a national chain and one of the Hungry Italian’s favorites is Red Robin. The place debuted in town about a decade ago and continues to serve up a variety of hamburgers as well as other sandwiches, appetizers and milkshakes. A variety of choices, along with “create-your-own” options make this a place that is sure to satisfy anyone’s appetites.
On this trip, the Hungry Italian and his family went out for dinner and were greeted by a dining room that was about 80% filled on a cold Wednesday night. The front bar area had a vibrant feel with couples and the main seating area had a large family birthday party going on. Overall the vibe was energetic. Upon sitting, we immediately placed our drink and appetizer order and received each promptly. The fried pickles were tangy and salty, a good combination that mixes well with the sauce that comes with it (save some of that for your fries).
This place has sandwiches and even a couple entrée options but go for the burgers. Either the “gourmet” or the “classic” patties. The “classic” size is like plumper fast food beef cookies and much better. On this trip, the Hungry Italian went for the Tavern Double burger, a basic sandwich that features lettuce, tomato, onion, thousand island dressing (secret sauce) and a classic patty with a side of steak fries.
It was delicious and filling. Others at the table enjoyed their “Burnin; Love Burger” and chicken tenders.
You do get unlimited fries as a side which is a nice touch and if so up for it, their milkshakes are solid even if they weren’t part of this dining experience.
The only drawback on this night was the wait between the appetizer arriving and the dinner was 22 minutes, an agonizingly long time. Our server never apologized for the delay, but oddly he had such a friendly demeanor and our table was having such a good time that it didn’t impact the experience. However, the Hungry Italian could clearly see that being a problem another time.
This place is a steady value that doesn't dissapoint. Very reliable and good..
