You’re at a gathering. Perhaps a party with your wife’s work friends and you have had minimal to no interaction with these people beforehand. Over the course of the outing, you strike up a friendly conversation with another gent and the two of you share a mutual need for companionship to get through this. You find interest in each other’s jokes, maybe even make vague plans to hang out again but ultimately no real friendship is born. It’s not that you didn’t like each other, quite honestly the opposite, but there also wasn’t a need learned to add to your friend pile. Same with Azul Tequila.
There is nothing wrong with the place and if it’s already on your Mexican food rotation, great. If it’s not, there is no reason to bypass where you currently go (i.e.: Cancun) to enjoy this place.
Upon entry and being seated, you’re given the expected chips and salsa and service is very fast as usual at a Mexican eatery. Having glancing at the menu and making a selection the food was brought out immediately…perhaps even too quick. We’ve all had a server warn us of a “hot” plate and that was no different here but this was extraordinarily hot…enough to ignite a campfire built with wet logs.
The food was scorching hot and the result was the chimichanga had a bad aftertaste at first. Once I let it set for three to four minutes, it congealed and was very tasty but nothing spectacular. Same with the refried beans and Mexican rice.
The whole meal was a good value and like most Mexican restaurants I was seated, served and out in 30 minutes. Its just that there isn’t much here to take me away from Cancun which has become a regular staple.
Long ago this place ceased being a Ponderosa Steakhouse and while those of who of a generation can picture the former set-up, it’s entirely different inside as it should be. The décor is okay, with a faux Mexican vibe.
Again, nothing wrong with the place. If you already like it this should serve as validation and if you’re interested in trying it I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.
Nothing against the place, just nothing that will bring me back for a while.
